Monday Club Update

Members of the Monday Club met, this week, at The Belted Galloway for a cuppa and a chat about what is happening over the coming months. There was great enthusiasm and under Lyn's guidance, the members agreed on things for the future.

It was agreed that there would be NO MONDAY CLUB on 6th APRIL due to many people having commitments over Easter.

The next meeting therefore is on 20th April at the usual place and time, Penninghame Church Hall, 10a.m.

Below, find details of the next meetings:

20th April: Music with Tom Dingwall and Gentle Exercise with Pam.

4th May: Memory Tips with Fiona Farr and Gentle Exercise with Pam

18th May: Spring / Summer Fair

Hope to see you all there!

Tambourelli - Whithorn School Reward Time

The recent round of Tambourelli as offered during Whithorn School Reward Time, has just finished. All pupils who took part were awarded a Certificate.

Many thanks to Tracey for her commitment to running  the activity.

A Brew and a Blether

The monthly meeting of this initiative, a partnership between Glentrool & Bargrennan Community Trust, The Riverside Day Centre in Newton Stewart and Building Healthy Communities, was held yesterday at the old School.

Some 25 people were entertained by Angus Dick, playing some great tunes on the Piano as well as singing some classic songs. This was much appreciated by all the attendees.

The group then moved to the second room, where Pam Paterson got everyone involved with "Gentle exercise to music" in her inimitable style.

After this exhilarating session, all were treated to a cuppa, biscuits and Hot Cross Buns.

Many thanks to Angus and Pam for their input.

The next Brew and a Blether meeting is on 29th April.

V.O.I.C.E. project

With the V.O.I.C.E. project coming to a close, there has been a plethora of training courses for volunteers in the Machars.

There have been 2 Elementary Food Hygiene courses that have been very well attended. One in February and one in March. A total of 29 volunteers were successfully trained during these 2 courses. These volunteers have come from a variety of organisations across the region which will enhance their opportunities in the future.

A Certificated First Aid course took place on 23rd March in which 8 volunteers were trained and there was a "Resolve" course attended by 5 volunteers which gives them an insight into reading body language and keeping safe in difficult situations, on the 24th March.

A full report of the V.O.I.C.E project will be available soon.

Jills of all Trades

The Jills restarted at the beginning of February. In the planning of the next couple of months, they decided to create a little more wall space to work with and practice their decorating skills. They have decided to re-install a couple of stud walls, plaster and decorate them. This will also incorporate storage space above.

.
This is a really useful skill as the basis of the stud wall is the same if you wanted to build a cupboard at home. The skills involved include careful measurement, working with plasterboard, drilling and screwing, taping and plastering.

With one wall completed, we are halfway to finishing our goal.

Jills meet every Wednesday, 10 - 12 at the workshop.
