Healthy Eating - Newton Stewart Youth Club

Dave and Luke took the Healthy cooking initiative to Newton Stewart Youth Group on Monday and gave a demonstration on how easy it is to cook healthily in a short period of time.

Some 36 young people watched as the demonstration of  Pasta Verdure del Frigo took shape and everyone had a taste.

At the end of the demonstration, the young people were asked if they would like to participate in further individual cooking sessions.

As a result of the interest, 3 further sessions have been identified for later in the year where the young people will have the chance to cook a simple recipe themselves. Big Thanks to Luke for his help during the evening.

Boccia and New Age Curling

A great competitive spirit ensued when the men challenged the ladies at New Age  Curling on Monday. There was some great skills shown in wiping out the opponents stones resulting in a few no scoring ends. The men finally overcame their opponents and won 11 - 9. Really close.

In Boccia, the ladies were out for revenge but unfortunately, due to the skills of the men playing that day, they did not achieve their desired outcome. The men running away with a 7 - 3 victory,

even though, as you can see, some ends required measuring. Great to see so many people having fun and being active.

Jills in the Community

The Jills of all Trades continued their work in the community with a visit to a home in Palnure to help spruce up a service user's Kitchen. The work involved sanding door frames and windows, filling holes in walls, undercoating and glossing the wooden surfaces and loft hatch as well as emulsioning the walls.

Over two days, the kitchen was transformed!

The service user said afterwards:

"The experience was much less painful than I imagined. Very pleasant to meet new people. It is so nice to see my kitchen clean and tidy and freshly decorated."

Big Thank You to volunteers Claire, James and Mary for their efforts over the 2 days.

Stranraer Rotary Mull of Galloway Marathon Trail.

On 30th May 2015 there will be a third walk/run over the stunning marathon length Mull of Galloway trail. Routes are well marked and there will be water stations.

The Main Event - a walk/run from the Mull of Galloway to Stranraer. This is 26 miles, mostly rough path. The start will be at the Mull of Galloway at 10 am.

For the less adventurous - a walk/run from Sandhead to Stranraer over the Mull of Galloway Trail; 10 miles, rough path and tarred roads with light traffic. This will start at Tigh na Mara hotel, Sandhead at 11.30.

Entrance fee of £25 per person for the longer course and £15 for the short course. This includes transport from the start at Stranraer marina to the Mull of Galloway or Sandhead, and a barbecue and complimentary drinks at the finish.

Unlike previous years there will not be a yachting component to the race, but there will be places on Sunday when yachts will host runners for a (weather permitting) trip round Ailsa Craig. These places will be limited and so there may be a ballot.

All sorts of levels of accommodation are available and the organisers can advise you how to maximise the enjoyment of your stay.
