The Living Well - Community Services in Dumfries and Galloway. A Search Tool.

Please take time to read this post and search the directory of activities as developed by the Third Sector Dumfries and Galloway

We are moving towards a health and social care landscape that will see greater emphasis on personal resilience and looking beyond the clinical environment for solutions to health problems that are often socially determined. There is a wealth of community resources on our doorstep that could help people better manage their health, but often they remain unknown to us.

As a result, Third Sector, Dumfries and Galloway has developed a new service, designed to promote better health and wellbeing throughout the region, but also pull together all useful activities and services into one place. Funded as part of its Adult Health and Social Care project, ‘The Living Well’ provides an online directory for health, social and community services that is bespoke to Dumfries & Galloway. Its aim is to help improve access to information for the general public and health and social care professionals, ensuring everyone can have access to the services which will improve their lives or the lives of those they support.

Users can freely search for activities and services from a topic of their choosing - either from their local area or regionwide.

To search the directory click HERE or go to the Third Sector logo on the right of the page.

The Living Well is open for submissions from any groups or services which benefit an individual’s health and wellbeing. Its overall aim is to be the central point where organisations big and small are able to promote their services to the widest possible audience.

Monday Club - Evaluation and Heartstart

This week the Monday Club met at Penninghame Church Hall for an evaluation of the club and its activities. This was necessary as numbers had been falling slightly over the last few months. Members, current, old and new were invited by Nathalie, Community Health Development Worker, to have their say as to how the club moves forward, what they like and dislike and how the members are in charge of the club and its activities.

There was a very good turnout and following this meeting, Nathalie wrote to all members. An extract of this is below.

"I would like to thank everyone who attended the Monday Club on 4th July 2016.

It was lovely to see so many of you taking part in the evaluation of the club and I hope you will continue to attend in the future as the feedback was so positive and the way forward even more encouraging.

I take this opportunity to thank Esme Noad for the continued support she has provided to the Club and Building Healthy Communities over the past three years.

I would also like to welcome Christine Murray who has kindly agreed to facilitate the group along with Esme.  Both Christine and Esme will be able to liaise with ourselves from now on."

Building Healthy Communities will continue to support the club, providing posters, booking activities etc as before.

After the evaluation, David and Ann Hirst, Peter Parker and Caroline Schofield delivered a shortened training session on the up to date techniques for CPR, Recovery Position and Choking to all members.

PLEASE NOTE:
Unfortunately, we have had to change the venue for the next meeting, Monday 18th July, as we have been informed the hall is unavailable.  The meeting will therefore take place at the McMillan Hall in the downstairs room on the left.

For any further information about the Monday Club and it's activities, please contact the office on 01988 501111
